Planned for 2150 Byrum Avenue at the corner of Byrum Avenue and Wingrove Street, the new development would essentially be a three-story condo building that would ultimately hold 91 individual units if completed, which at first might seem totally common.

But in a somewhat unusual twist, developer FMBC Investments is planning to build the structure using shipping containers, giving the project a dynamic design that’s specifically appealing to anybody who loves the idea of re-purposing usable materials for just about anything, including housing.

As of now, the project is far from being official, as FMBC is still seeking a zoning change from the city that would allow for a 90-unit residential complex. Right now, the two sites in which the project would be developed on are currently zoned to accommodate 20 detached single-family homes.

Additional details about the shipping container project are still a little fuzzy, however, developers have said they plan to offer studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units within the building. In addition, it’s also unclear as to whether the units would be for sale or for rent, while pricing is also something that has still yet to be announced.

In any case, expect prices to still be rather affordable regardless of whether developers go the apartment route or choose condo residences instead, mainly because construction won’t require conventional methods or materials.
